Housing Santa Barbara Day! - A Community Event

Housing SB.jpg

2nd Story Associates was a proud sponsor of Housing Santa Barbara Day!

Held on Saturday, October 13th, Housing Santa Barbara Day was a community event that brought together residents, landlords, housing agencies, city and county leaders and local non-profit organizations. Attendees were provided with information on housing resources and given an opportunity to provide input on the affordable housing crises on the Idea Wall. The focus of the event was on encouraging ideas on increasing the availability of affordable housing, reducing homelessness, as well as fostering more programs that address the affordability crisis facing our middle income earners like teachers, emergency responders, social workers and more.

A great resource provided to attendees was the Affordable Housing Resource Guide. Click on the link below to access this resource!

Johnson Court Groundbreaking - Housing Santa Barbara's Homeless Veterans

JC.png

2nd Story Associates is a proud General Partner in the upcoming development of Johnson Court. The Johnson Court development broke ground on Monday, October 8th and will house 16 very low to low-income veterans in Santa Barbara.

The veteran target population is in keeping with the wishes of the former property owners, the Johnson family, whose father had served in the military. The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara (HACSB) purchased the property and in keeping with the family’s wishes, will provide housing for veterans at the aptly named “Johnson Court”.

The need for affordable veteran housing is growing significantly nationwide. The Central Coast Collaborative Vulnerability Index database shows that there are 210 homeless veterans on our streets- with an average age of 52.9 years, and the oldest veteran reported to be 84 years old. The proposed housing will meet the needs of veterans with special needs, disabilities, who are seniors, and any combination of these realities veterans experience.

Tools for School! - Made Possible by Union Bank

Tools for School 062.JPG

2nd Story Associates' "Tools for School" program is an annual campaign to provide low income youth in our community the "tools" necessary to start their school year off right!

This year on August 11th, 400 school-aged children received brand new backpacks filled with school supplies, making a positive impact on their school experience.  At 2nd Story, we envision a community where all children have the tools necessary to succeed throughout the school year and beyond.

We wish our students all the best in the coming year, and with gratitude, we acknowledge and thank our partners at Union Bank for making this event possible.

The Gardens on Hope - Affordable Housing for Santa Barbara's Frail Seniors

2014-08-05 Front Elevation.jpg

2nd Story Associates is proud to be a General Partner in the development of the Gardens on Hope.  On Monday, July 30th a groundbreaking ceremony was held to kick-off the construction of this important project.  Construction is expected to last 14 months.

Demand for affordable housing for Santa Barbara's senior population is growing exponentially within the City proper:  1 in every 14 seniors in Santa Barbara lives in poverty.

The Gardens on Hope will consist of 89 studio units and will provide senior residents with three meals a day, housekeeping, transportation to medical appointments and a host of social programs.  This new community will enable this financially vulnerable population to avoid premature placement in skilled nursing, often the only option for our frail, low-income seniors.

The Gardens on Hope will provide independence, a sense of well-being, community, dignity, and safety - the basic necessities for a long and happy life.

We can't wait to welcome home the future residents of Gardens on Hope!
