2nd Story Associates & Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara Adopt-A-Room

2nd Story Associates were the recipients of a $50,000 grant from the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara to provide furnishing for the new residents of Vera Cruz Village. The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara opened Vera Cruz Village, a 28-unit affordable housing project that serves the special needs and formerly homeless populations of our community. Vera Cruz Village is an important response to the critical need for affordable housing in our community and this grant provided meaningful support towards these efforts. As residents transition from long-term homelessness to having a stable home environment, providing affordable apartments outfitted with household furnishing is essential.

This grant from the Women’s Fund allowed 2nd Story Associates to fully furnish all 28 apartments with furniture and basic necessities, including beds, dressers, small dining tables/chairs and other assorted household items. Many of the new residents had few possessions, but upon moving-in were provided personal items. Addressing each resident’s basic needs allows supportive service providers to attend to high level needs, which improves the health of residents and increases housing stability.

The furnishings transformed each apartment into a beautiful and comfortable home. Each resident experiences the comforts of home immediately upon moving into their new apartment. 2nd Story Associates is extremely grateful and appreciative of the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara’s support. Visit their website to learn more about their work in our community and explore the photo gallery to see the results of our collective efforts.
